Supporting a resilient and thriving community — environmentally + economically + socially

June is Orca Action Month!

June has been designated as Orca Action Month in Washington! All around the state, organizations are planning events in June to celebrate our beloved, iconic, and endangered southern resident orca whales. You can find out about all these events by going to the state website for Orca Action Month.

Here on Bainbridge, we are supporting these efforts. Our City has passed a resolution to acknowledge and support Orca Action Month, and here at Sustainable Bainbridge we are partnering on programming and events to bring awareness to this important issue.

As an Island in the middle of Puget Sound with 53 miles of shoreline, the things we all do on Bainbridge matter for orcas. Get involved in the activities below, and visit the Orca Action Month website, to learn more about our beloved orca whales and what you can do to protect them.

 LOCAL EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:

  • Youth Orca Action Poster Contest: Now through May 4, young people between ages 7 and 17 are encouraged to submit posters that highlight that June is Orca Action Month and communicate ways that we can help orcas as individuals and/or communities. Please click here for all the details about how to submit a poster.
  • More to come!
