SUMMARY:SB Partner: BI Metro Parks MLK Day of Service
DESCRIPTION:Join BI Metro Parks and our incredible partners for the annual Martin Luther King Jr Day of Service.  From 10am-1pm on Monday\, January 19\, volunteers will come together to make this “a day on\, not a day off.” \nConservation projects for all ages are planned\, including planting native wildflowers\, mulching young plants\, and removing invasive species like ivy\, spurge laurel\, and blackberry.  Parks staff and knowledgeable volunteers will be on hand to share knowledge about the park and its restoration and provide all the tools needed for the job.  Join us to work as long as you’re able\, plus enjoy a hot drink to warm up! \nRestoration at Blakely Harbor Park has involved thousands of volunteer hours\, thousands of native plants\, and years of dedicated hard work.  Once the site of the largest mill in the world\, Blakely Harbor is now a much beloved park\, connecting to miles of trails and hosting beach access and a birding blind.  But restoration work is ongoing\, with young native plants to care for and plenty of invasive weeds yet to remove.

SUMMARY:SB Partner: EcoAdapt's Sea Level Rise Sculpture Unveiling
DESCRIPTION:This sculpture\, designed by EcoAdapt\, allows visitors to tangibly “experience” what climate projections anticipate for sea level rise. Big thanks to Rotary Club of Bainbridge Island and the Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation for funding this project\, to Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Parks & Recreation District for providing it a home and preparing the site for installation\, and to Adrien Petersen and artist Pete Welty for bringing it to life. \nThis project is part of EcoAdapt’s Visualizing Sea Level Rise in the Puget Sound Project. Learn more about this and other activities on our website. \nInterested in Sea Level Rise? Make sure to attend the 2026 Bainbridge Island Environmental Conference on March 29th at Islandwood. This year’s topic is What can and should we do as an Island community in rising seas?
