SUMMARY:SB Partner: COBI Paint Recycling Drop-off
DESCRIPTION:The City of Bainbridge Island is hosting a free paint recycling event on Saturday\, June 28\, 9am-3pm\, at its operations & maintenance facility at 7305 NE Hidden Cove Rd\, in partnership with GreenSheen. \nAccepted Materials:\nUrethanes\nOil-based and Latex-based Paints\nAcrylic Paint\nVarnishes\, Shellacs and Lacquers\nPrimers\nClear Coatings \nNot Accepted:\nSpray Paints\, Marine and Auto Paints\nHousehold Hazardous Waste\nElectronics\nPaint Thinner\nDriveway Sealers \nFor questions\, please email GreenSheen. \nWhy are we able to recycle paint in Washington?\nIn 2019\, our state passed extended producer responsibility legislation to make sure residents had a way to recycle their leftover paint. The program is funded through a fee put on all architectural paint greater than half a pint sold in Washington. \nPaintCare is the nonprofit stewardship organization designated to facilitate collection. They in turn collaborate with GreenSheen\, which produces quality\, latex house paint in 18 colors (and costing up to 75% less than traditional paint) by recycling an impressive 95% of the paint. \nThe year-round drop-off site for your leftover paint on Bainbridge is Mallory Paint Store on Hildebrand. Refer to the above list for what is accepted. Other locations can be found here.

SUMMARY:SB Partner: Kitsap Bank "Shred to Fed"
DESCRIPTION:Bring your sensitive or outdated documents for safe destruction and recycling to the Bainbridge branch of Kitsap Bank on September 27\, 9am-noon. There is a maximum of 75# per vehicle. Donations (cash or check) go to Helpline House. \nRemember that shredded paper cannot go in regular recycling\, since there it would be mixed with other types of recyclables and cannot be separated out once at the sorting facility. But shred events are solely paper\, which means it can be baled and sent directly to a pulping mill to be made into new paper. \nIf you can’t make the 27th\, check here for other “From Shred to Fed” Kitsap Bank locations in September and October.

Contact: hdowey@gmail.com. \nThe Fix-it Fair welcomes both participants and volunteers. If you have repair skills to share or wish to support this community initiative\, please email Heather Dowey.  \nThis collaborative initiative between Sustainable Bainbridge and BARN\, with support from the Rotary Club of Bainbridge Island\, promotes sustainability\, waste reduction\, and community skill-sharing while helping participants extend the life of their belongings. It embodies commitment to building a more sustainable Kitsap community by promoting repair over replacement\, reducing waste\, and fostering a circular economy. SUMMARY:SB Partner: BAC's Tossed and Found Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Imagination and resourcefulness are on display this spring\, when 10 artists known for their use of recycled\, reused and repurposed materials celebrate Earth Month 2026 in BAC’s exhibition\, Tossed & Found\, April 3-26. Come open the show with us on Friday\, April 3\, 6-8pm and toast the artists with a pour of Amelia Wynn wine. \nExpect the unexpected\, playfulness\, pointed comment\, and technical mastery in work that helps us look at our everyday world in new and unique ways: Joanne Bohannon’s totemic crows and owls\, David Dickhut’s quirky people\, Lynn DiNino’s imaginative and hilarious narratives\, Denise Harris’ witty small scale masterpieces\, Steve Parmelee’s surprising and successful juxtapositions\, Loran Scruggs’ tin homages to a world at risk\, Kathy Ross’ gorgeously obsessive mosaics\, MJ Linford’s terrific Plastic Sea book and Margie McDonald’s non-representational wire and found object sculpture. \nApparel presents another opportunity for reinvention and reuse\, as seen in Tyler Andersen’s handbags made from shoes\, and wearables by artists from ReFashion Bainbridge 2026.

SUMMARY:Panel Talk: 10 Years of ReFashion
DESCRIPTION:Craft can be a tool for change—one stitch\, garment\, and reclaimed material at a time. Artists who work with repurposed materials understand this firsthand\, and a panel of sustainable artists and community leaders will gather at BIMA on April 12\, 3-5pm\, to discuss how making can contribute to a more thoughtful future. \nThe panelists\, who are all involved with the upcoming ReFashion Show\, will share the history of this show\, their creative processes\, the environmental urgency behind textile waste\, and how refashioning opens up new pathways for expression\, community connection\, and sustainable futures. Plus\, in honor of Handwork 2026\, we will examine how handwork\, repurposing\, and resourcefulness shape the ReFashion Show\, now in its 10th year\, and the broader story of craft today. \nTickets coming soon!
