SUMMARY:Decorative Holly Bundling for the Annual Giveaway
DESCRIPTION:BI Park and Recreation District is cutting down a nicely-berried holly tree at the wooded area by Owen’s Playground and the Rotary Park ballfield. This will improve three major community resources: 1) The park itself\, which will be liberated from a seed-producing invasive holly tree; 2) The free\, bundled holly bunches will come with a label explaining why holly is bad\, how to dispose of it\, and what to plant instead; and 3) Attract shoppers to the Waterfront Thrift Store Holiday Sale at the BI Senior Community Center. This annual sale is an important source of funding for the BI Senior Center\, an amazingly important resource for people of all ages. \nDetails \n\nWednesday\, Nov. 24 from 2-4 pm – Help with bundling and\, if you like\, choose the choicest branches for your own decorating. Location: the rear of the Senior Center.\nFriday\, Nov. 26 from 1-3pm – Organize the holly into bunches small\, medium and large to give away the next day and choose your own for decorating. Location: the rear of the Senior Center\nSaturday\, Nov. 27 from 9am until gone – Help with the public giveaway by distributing the free holly and cleaning up afterwards.\n\nTo pre-register \n\nEmail Jeannette at jfranks1@comcast.net or\nText 206-755-8461. While it is fine to just show up\, it is very helpful to know who will be where when. Almost all work will be outside and we will be masked if in close proximity.

SUMMARY:Zero Waste Farmers' Market Booth
DESCRIPTION:The August theme for Zero Waste’s Bainbridge farmers market booth on August 21 will focus on how to be a more conscientious buyer and owner of clothing. The fashion industry accounts for 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions. How we purchase\, wash and treat our clothes figures into that percentage.\n\nSustainable clothing expert Paige St. Pierre will be on hand to help answer any questions you might have about clothing care\, purchasing\, and sustainable fashion. She also happens to be this year’s winner of the Trashion Show’s Ready-to-Wear category and will have her dress on display. Paige is pictured above left next to the model wearing her winning design.

SUMMARY:Earth Day Weed Pull at Waterfront Park
DESCRIPTION:Meet across from the Senior Center in the park. Weed Warriors founder Jeannette Franks will lead a contingent to remove non-native invasive species to help our trees and parks thrive. Masks and social distancing in effect. \nBring garden gloves and tools\, but extras will be available. Garden spades\, pruners\, narrow shovels and digging forks are especially helpful. Dress for rain and shine. \nRecent research indicates that mature forests\, such as we have on Bainbridge\, are powerful carbon sequesters\, mitigating climate change. Take action against global warming by fostering healthy native trees and plants!
