Using techniques inspired by one of our favorite books\, Visible Mending\, Allison will help get you started on your way to being a mending maven. Different handstitching or sewing machines techniques will be sewn\,  there are so many fun options available when it comes to mending. I love Allison’s stitching in her mends and the way she adds a fun pop of color. You can do it her way to make your mends fully visible or use her techniques to make mends that are a little less seen. Cost is $25 per session. \nMinimum 3 participants needed to hold class. \nSign up by Wednesday prior to class day.

SUMMARY:SB Partner - Book Talk
DESCRIPTION:Some 45 years ago\, Canoe Magazine queried\, “Where are the women in whitewater canoeing?” Maradel Gale\, a founder and board member of Sustainable Bainbridge\, answered that call by recruiting six other women\, who all trained for a year and then embarked on a journey from Chicken\, Alaska\, on the Fortymile River to Eagle\, Alaska\, on the Yukon River.  Their trip was full of adventure\, paddling through undeveloped territory and a river at flood stage.  Not content with oral reminiscences when reuniting every ten years\, the group decided to write a book about their experiences on the river and the impact it had on all their lives. Join the authors for a special presentation of From Chicken to Eagle:  Seven Women Paddling Whitewater and Navigating Life at the Bainbridge Island Senior Community Center on Tuesday\, June 11 at 6pm.

SUMMARY:Beach Exploration for Family and Friends
DESCRIPTION:Please join beach naturalists out on the beach at the Bainbridge Island Ferry Terminal. It’s a very low tide\, which is the best time to find critters that live in the intertidal zone.  It’s always an adventure as we explore\, see our usual inhabitants\, share stories about their lives\, and maybe find a few surprises as well.  This will be our first beach exploration since the construction was started at the ferry terminal\, and we are looking forward to being back at one of our favorite spots on the island.  We are excited that this is a joint exploration with IslandWood. \nTo get to the beach\, take the Waterfront  Park trail\, cross the ravine bridge\, continue on the waterfront trail straight across Harborview Drive. Either way\, look for the sandwich board which will direct you to the beach access. Beach naturalists will be identifiable by their bright vests. Come join in. Hope to see you there. \nPreparation: \n\nThis is a great family event\, but please do not bring your dog.\nWe suggest wearing shoes or boots that can get muddy and wet because we will be walking in muddy\, rocky areas\, as well as shallow water.\nPut on your sunscreen or rain gear as the weather dictates.\nCobblestones and seaweed can make footing challenging for some. If that’s you bring your walking support.\n\nParking and Directions: \nParking is easiest and free in downtown Winslow.  Head to Waterfront Park and take the trail to the ravine bridge. After crossing the bridge\, continue on to Harborview Drive. Cross the street and look for the sandwich board\, which will direct you to the beach access.  Or you can use any of the ferry terminal paid lots which are close and walk to Harborview Drive\, which is the street at the stoplight at the top of the ferry waiting zone. Walk done the street and turn left at the sandwich board\, which will direct you to the beach access. Beach naturalists will be identifiable by their bright vests. Come join in.
