MacKinnon\, journalist and author of The Day the World Stops Shopping: How Ending Consumerism Saves the Environment and Ourselves\, as well as The 100-mile Diet\, and Rebecca Rockefeller\, co-author of Buy Nothing\, Get Everything\, and one of the founders of the world-wide Buy Nothing Project. After the conversation\, there will be a question and answer period\, and an opportunity for book signing. Tickets are here.\n\n The Day the World Stops Shopping envisions a time when we reduce our consumerism by 25%. MacKinnon tracks this possibility by contemplating what it would mean in our lives and the lives of others\, how it would affect us\, and how it could save the planet. His in-depth and wide-ranging research encompasses consumption habits from blue jeans to electricity. He shows how short a time it took us to get to where we are now\, and how we could dial it back to make a huge impact on climate change.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJ. B. MacKinnon is an award-winning journalist whose work has appeared in The New Yorker\, National Geographic\, and The Atlantic\, as well as The Best American Science and Nature Writing anthologies. DESCRIPTION:Come stroll the beautiful trails at IslandWood to view apparel creatively repurposed from various materials at the seventh annual ReFashion Show. Designers have entered their juried outfits in one of three categories: \n\nUpcycled\nMystery Box\nThemed: Connections\n\nThe trails display will be open from 1-3pm. Cost is $15 adults\, $5 students.\nA runway show with awards follows at 3:15. Cost is $10 adults\, $5 students. \nThere will also be an accessories exchange in the Welcome Center. Bring gently used purses\, bags\, scarves\, and jewelry. You are welcome to bring and not take\, or vice versa\, or both. \nTicket registration will open in mid-late April.

DESCRIPTION:Purchase tickets here.\nThe 2022 Bainbridge Island Environmental Conference at IslandWood presents “We All Get Dressed: Garb\, Gear and Growing a Sustainable Clothing Economy” on Sunday March 27\, from 12:30-5pm.  The conference will feature keynote speakers focused on consumer psychology\, our local fibershed\, and closing the loop on textile waste through innovative recycling technology. \nFollowing the keynotes\, there will be two sets of breakout sessions that will cover a variety of topics in both discussion and hands-on learning formats\, including a clothing audit\, a local fibershed panel\, toxic chemicals in textiles\, the secondhand clothing journey\, clothing labels\, WA textile legislation\, and repairs. There will also be exhibits in the Great Hall for you to get connected\, learn more & take action! \nParticipants will be invited to bring a piece of clothing to swap and to share their ideas of what each of us can do to contribute to a sustainable fashion economy.
