ReFashion Bainbridge

ReFashion Bainbridge is a collective effort of artists, activists, and neighbors who are committed to rethinking our role as consumers and makers in the fashion industry. Everyone gets dressed, and what we choose to wear matters, not just to ourselves, but also to the world. Fashion has enormous environmental and social welfare impacts. Our goal is to educate and empower our fellow Islanders about these impacts and opportunities to increase the sustainability of our clothing through workshops, fashion shows, conferences, and resources.

Thank you to our sustainability-minded
2022 sponsors!

Bainbridge Disposal is a family-owned company proudly serving our community for more than 50 years.  Over the years, they have adapted to changes in the county waste streams by adding services for a more sustainable collection of the items we discard. The Vincent Road location has enhanced the recycling center so residents can properly dispose of their recycled items and keep them out of the landfill. They involve themselves in the community in more ways than we can acknowledge, but we greatly appreciate their cash sponsorship supporting our Show since its inception six years ago.

Committed to the health of our planet, sustainable building runs deep within Clark Construction’s culture. We strive to be green, both on the jobsite and in our own offices, from finding new sustainable materials and practices to improving recycling throughout the company. Our LEED-certified personnel were among the first in the region to implement innovative, sustainable building systems.

Always mindful of our impact on the environment, many of our projects bring unique opportunities for energy-efficient or green materials and methods. A number of our residences are constructed using innovative Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs). This sustainable building method creates a tight building envelope, meaning lower heating and cooling costs and greater noise reduction.

We were proud to have been selected as the general contractor for the award-winning Loom House on Bainbridge Island, which became the first-ever residential remodel to earn Living Building certification from the International Living Future Institute. This designation is the most rigorous performance standard in the building industry, which required adherence to a strict materials Red List, proof of recycling materials, and net zero resource usage.

We would like to welcome Jenn Herrman as a new sponsor of our show. As she explains, “After studying and working as a textile designer, it became very clear that the fashion industry was a huge contributor to our landfill and air and water pollution.  Frustrated that my passion of designing for textiles had strong negative impacts on our environment, I am compelled to think outside the box and support movements that can reshape the future of fashion.  Collectively we can learn, support, and create positive change.” Jenn is also a sustainable chairperson for the PTSO in support of local groups and initiatives that will take us on the road to a cleaner greener future. As a realtor, Jenn is reachable here.

An appreciative welcome to Bay Hay & Feed as a new sponsor for our 2022 show. As an island institution since 1979, Bay Hay & Feed has been at the forefront of running a sustainable business in our community. Known as a feed store, the business has expanded into so much more. Other departments in the buildings include plant nursery, clothing, food market, feed and chicks, propane refills, tableware/gifts and of course, their branded items that are seen around the world!

In 2011, Bay Hay & Feed appeared on the “Washington Green 50” list as one of the most sustainably operated companies in Washington State. Besides composting, recycling and purchasing 100% green power for their building, Bay Hay & Feed tries to purchase products in the most sustainable practice that they can for their customers. In 2019, the business was awarded the “Business Recycler of the Year” by the Washington State Recycling Association.

This Bainbridge-based company is another great partner who has joined the show for a second year as a cash sponsor. A Kitchen That Works is a full-service design/build firm specializing in residential remodels. The company was acknowledged as “Sustainable Business of the Year” in 2017 by the Bainbridge Island Chamber of Commerce. The owners strive to educate their clients about sustainable design and construction, as it is a part of their lifestyle, living in a Three Star Built Green® home that they designed and built in 2006. A Kitchen That Works™ is an active member of the Kitsap Building Association. Owner Molly McCabe has received the certified Green Professional (CGP) designation and partner Clive Pardy holds a Sustainable Building Advisor certificate. Along with their professional involvement in sustainability, they are also avid volunteers with Bainbridge Island Zero Waste!

This is the first year that 2atara will be a Refashion Show sponsor. We are so pleased to have them support our event! 2atara design + construction is a Bainbridge Island construction company.  Designing and building with the future in mind, they work on projects that have design integrity and a sustainable vision that aligns with world resource preservation. The company has a lot of experience with sustainable practices – life cycle analysis, reuse, recycling, energy efficient systems, air quality, etc.  They leverage this experience to capture the best in sustainable technologies. Here is how 2atara describes their projects:

  • Energy-efficient homes
  • Healthy for people and planet
  • Quality construction
  • Site-friendly designs to minimize impact on the land
  • Spaces that are not just a place to sleep at night, but reflections of who you are and what you believe in
