SUMMARY:Waterfront Walk and Talk: What can king tides tell us about future sea levels?
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, December 8\, 2025 7:45AM\n\n\n\nWaterfront Park at the public dock\n\n\n\n\nPlease join the Bainbridge Island Watershed Council\, EcoAdapt\, Hyla High School\, the City of Bainbridge Island (COBI) and Washington State Ferries (WSF) staff for a king tide walk and talk along downtown Bainbridge’s shoreline. We will meet at 7:45 at Waterfront Park near the public dock\, walk the waterfront trail across to the ferry maintenance area and across Waypoint trail to end at the shoreline between Eagle Harbor condos and the ferry dock. Along the way\, we’ll hear from Hyla students\, WSF ferries\, COBI and others as we talk about king tides as a preview of the risks of sea level rise\, and what we can and should do to prepare and respond to rising tides.

DESCRIPTION:Meet across from the Senior Center in the park. Weed Warriors founder Jeannette Franks will lead a contingent to remove non-native invasive species to help our trees and parks thrive. Masks and social distancing in effect. \nBring garden gloves and tools\, but extras will be available. Garden spades\, pruners\, narrow shovels and digging forks are especially helpful. Dress for rain and shine. \nRecent research indicates that mature forests\, such as we have on Bainbridge\, are powerful carbon sequesters\, mitigating climate change. Take action against global warming by fostering healthy native trees and plants!
