City Will Hire New Climate Mitigation/and Adaptation Officer

The City Council approved the hiring of a new Climate Mitigation/Adaptation Officer position for the City. The Climate Officer will provide leadership to direct and coordinate implementation of the recently approved Bainbridge Island Climate Action Plan (CAP) and related programs within the City of Bainbridge Island such as green building and sustainable transportation.

Having a person responsible for implementing programs that will reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, help us adapt to a changing climate, and work with the Community is essential for making progress on climate change.  The Climate Officer will be housed in the Executive Department of the City and will work closely with the City Manager and Deputy City Manager to conduct current and/or long- range planning projects and day-to-day activities in accordance with the City’s and Department’s climate change related goals and policies.

The City will be advertising this position in late December or early January.  Please spread the word.  The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in climate science, and a fundamental understanding of climate mitigation and adaptation technologies;
  • Strong team building skills with the ability to work independently and take initiative;
  • Ability to coordinate multiple activities concurrently; and
  • Effective communication skills suited for a broad range of audiences and mediums.
