Some 45 years ago, Canoe Magazine queried, “Where are the women in whitewater canoeing?” Maradel Gale, a founder and board member of Sustainable Bainbridge, answered that call by recruiting six other women, who all trained for a year and then embarked on a journey from Chicken, Alaska, on the Fortymile River to Eagle, Alaska, on the Yukon River.  Their trip was full of adventure, paddling through undeveloped territory and a river at flood stage.  Not content with oral reminiscences when reuniting every ten years, the group decided to write a book about their experiences on the river and the impact it had on all their lives. Join the authors for a special presentation of From Chicken to Eagle:  Seven Women Paddling Whitewater and Navigating Life at the Bainbridge Island Senior Community Center on Tuesday, June 11 at 6pm.
