Please join beach naturalists out on the beach at a very low tide. This is the best time to find critters that live in the intertidal zone.  It’s always an adventure as we explore, see our usual inhabitants, share stories about their lives, and maybe find a few surprises as well.  This will be our first beach exploration since the construction was started at the ferry terminal, and we are looking forward to being back at one of our favorite spots on the island.  We are excited that this is a joint exploration with IslandWood.

  • This is a great family event, but please do not bring your dog.
  • We suggest wearing shoes or boots that can get muddy and wet because we will be walking in muddy, rocky areas, as well as shallow water.
  • Put on your sunscreen or rain gear as the weather dictates.
  • Cobblestones and seaweed can make footing challenging for some. If that’s you bring your walking support.

Parking is easiest and free in downtown Winslow.  To get to the beach, take the waterfront trail, cross the ravine bridge, continue on the waterfront trail straight across Harborview Drive. Optionally you can use any of the ferry terminal paid lots which are close and walk towards the water on Harborview Drive. Either way, look for the sandwich board which will direct you to the beach access. Beach naturalists will be identifiable by their bright vests. Come join in. Hope to see you there.
