The American Forest & Paper Association reported that 66.2% of paper consumed in the United States was recovered for recycling in 2019. The recycling rate was substantially higher for cardboard boxes at a whopping 92%! Besides being the most recycled packaging material in the U.S., “nearly half of the material used nationwide to make new boxes comes from paper recovered for recycling,” according to Waste 360, a waste, recycling and organics industry supporter.
